We went to a little shop inside a walled area to see how gold is extracted from ore in the Nasca region. It is a very difficult and physically challenging job to obtain gold from the mountains. The men must walk in and use very primitive means to extract the ore. But evidentally the financial reward is greater - several times more than a man could make on the farm in the same time period.
The father and son who own the shop showed us the process.
The route to the shop is pot-holed and cluttered with junk! I think only a local could find this place.!
