My suitcases are almost ready to go!! Thought I had it all figured out - then I realized it will be much cooler in Peru in the Andes Mountains!! So a few "warmer" things were tossed in.
We are looking forward to 3 weeks of travel in Peru and Colombia! This will be my first trip to South America and south of the Equator. Darrell is returning to Lima, Peru and Bogota, Colombia - cities he has traveled to many times during his career with Procter and Gamble living in Caracas, Venezuela from 1991 to 1994.
We are traveling with a small group with ties to Naples, FL. Dave and Kathleen Roberts are P & G retirees and live in Pelican Bay in Naples! They finished a "World Cruise" last year - but chose to wait to go to Machu Picchu until this trip in order to spend a little more time there (and to go with us). Dave's brother Rick and his wife Phyllis are from California - we are looking forward to meeting them. My golfing girlfriend (from Quail Creek CC) Lanny Scholes from Naples, FL (also lives in Pelican Bay) and Canada will also join us!
We will be at Machu Picchu on June 21 - which is the Winter Solstice. The Temple of the Sun at Machu Picchu is aligned to the solstice. We will be in Cusco (also in the Sacred Valley in the Andes) during Inti Raymi - which is their Festival of the Sun. Should be very exciting!!
After 2 weeks in Peru - Darrell and I are traveling to Bogota, Colombia. Darrell's classmate and friend from Lake City, Iowa, Richard Wernick and his wife Christi have a home in Bogota. Christi is from Bogota and has family members in the area. We are looking forward to spending time with them and seeing Bogota through their eyes!!
