Many flags were flying to show support for the Separatist movement (ETA) Basque Homeland and Freedom organization for an independent state for the Basque Region in North Eastern Spain and into a small region of southwestern France. The Basque have lived in the region since Neolithic times and speak a very unique language Euskara.
The oldest child inherits the home and land regardless if a boy or girl. If a man (not the oldest in his family) marries an oldest girl he takes her name and so do the children forming a matriarchal lineage.
